Save the Duck !

Hello All My Swimming Friends - ducks and humans!!!

This is a call to action…feathers or not.

Everyone knows that summer means sun, barbecues and swimming.

But what every smart duck and kid knows is that we need to be careful - while having fun.
So summer also means wearing sun block, staying away from the grill and above all being safe in and around the swimming pool.

My name is Digby Duck and I'm here to talk to you about pool safety.
I don't know about you but I'm such a big fan of swimming!
Hey, if Mama Duck would let me, I would spend every day until Labor Day in the pool!
She has taught me all the rules on being safe and I'm sure you know them too: never go swimming by yourself!
We always have some of my duck friends' older brothers and sisters or their parents watching us at all times.
If you're not a very good swimmer, or don't have webbed feet, stay in the shallow end of the pool and
wear a life jacket, never go in the swimming pool if the cover is still on and especially stay clear of the drain.

What are you saying? You never heard about staying away from the drain?
Well then I'm glad we're talking because pool drains can be really scary and I am here to tell you why.

Every swimming pool needs a pumping system to circulate the water and we refer to this as the drain.
The pump circulates the water by creating suction in the drain that is really strong!
Picture the way a magnet sticks to the fridge - now imagine that power being a thousand times stronger.
Not even the strongest Duck, I mean, person could pull someone that has been sucked into the drain.
So imagine how dangerous it is to go near it, especially since it's underwater, where you have no air to breathe.
That's bad.

Tell your parents you want a care-free summer!
Tell them to get a Safety Vacuum Release System (SVRS) installed on your pool, so you don't get stucked to the drain.
It is a pretty smart thing if you ask me and I am just a duck!
When the SVRS detects blockage it automatically stops the suction of the drain so no one gets caught.

Hurray!

With a device like this we'll be able to spend all day safely in the pool!
So be safe and before you go swimming this summer ask your parents if your pool has a Safety Vacuum Release System installed.
My Mama and Papa Duck just made sure ours did have one!

See you in the pool!

Hooray for SVRS - I give them 5 quacks of gratitude!

Your friend,

Digby Duck
